Most of us think about all those extra calories we’ve consumed around this time of year and we may be thinking about our pet’s weight too. Orchard Vet Group is an Approved Weight Management Centre for pets and therefore our staff have undergone specific training in order to offer appropriate advice.

Statistics show that 59% of dogs and 39% of cats in the UK are overweight.

Contributing factors of obesity in pets include;

  • Gender – females are more prone to weight gain than males
  • Age – older animals have difficulties with movement due to arthritis
  • Neutering – animals require fewer calories once neutered

But the most important factor is over-feeding where family members give too many treats or don’t weigh out food as per the manufacturer’s guidelines.
There are several risks involved with having an overweight pet including joint disease, heart and lung disease, diabetes, liver disease and a reduce lifespan, prevention is better than cure. Orchard Vets offer FREE weight clinics which are run by our trained team of nurses who can help you and your pet reach your goal, so if you’re are interested in attending one of our clinics, or for more advice, give us a call on 01458 832972. Clinics are by appointment and run Monday to Friday between 10am and 5pm.
**Attend one our clinics between 1st and 31st January and you’ll be automatically entered into a competition where you could win one month’s supply of FREE Weight Management pet food**
