What we can offer your pet

There are no minimum standards to which Veterinary practices have to conform so to give our clients with a point of reference about the standards we set Orchard Veterinary Group has become a Tier 2 Approved Standards Practice.
This involved a detailed inspection by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and
the British Small Animal Veterinary Association, followed by check-ups at regular
intervals. We seem to have impressed the inspector who commented in one of her letters
“You have an enviable practice and all credit to the Practice team for such forward
and positive thinking”
At Orchard Veterinary Group the best interests of our patients are always our primary
concern. Our custom built premises were planned with this one thing in mind - our
patients come first.
We pride ourselves on our friendly, welcoming staff and high standards of care from the moment an animal enters the building to the moment it is discharged.

Consultations:
We have four consulting rooms and a large comfortable waiting room to reduce waiting
time. All clinical areas have hospital grade, impervious flooring and the waiting
area has two separate seating zones to that animals of different temperaments can
sit apart. Consulting rooms are air conditioned for a comfortable environment from
the coldest Winter days to the hottest Summer. All clinical records are computerised
- a great boon for those of us who have worked in the ‘dark ages’ of hand written
records with illegible handwriting and missing record cards!
Patient wards:
Dogs and cats are housed in separate wards. All kennels face in the same direction
to minimise stressful ‘staring contests’ across the wards. We have extra large ‘walk-in’
kennels for our larger patients as well as isolation facilities if a contagious condition
is suspected.
Surgical facilities:
We have two dedicated, sterile operating theatres separated from a clean preparation area. Our surgeons wear sterile gloves and long sleeved gowns over theatre suits, hats and masks. All instruments are sterilised at 135 degrees before every procedure.
Automated patient monitoring is vital to reduce anaesthetic risks and at Orchard we routinely monitor ECG, respiration and blood oxygen as well as having a Veterinary Nurse in attendance at all times. Air conditioning, piped anaesthetic gasses and waste gas scavenging are built in.
Dentistry:
Good oral health is vital and we have a separate dental suite where we carry out scaling and polishing of teeth and perform any necessary extractions. We also offer advice on dental care and our nurses are happy to give demonstrations of correct brushing technique and home dental care. Learn more...
Laboratory facilities:
We have a fully equipped laboratory offering a same day results service for many clinical tests. We are able to carry out blood serum tests for internal organ problems, blood cell counts and electrolyte levels. We routinely carry out cytology on suspect tissues and skin samples as well as urine analysis.
Diagnostic facilities:
The Practice is well equipped with many diagnostic aids including X-ray, electro-cardiogram,
fibre optic endoscope, ultrasound scanners and pulse oximetry.
