The anaesthetised ferret has fur clipped over the operation site and the skin is given a surgical scrub.
The surgeon wears a sterile gown and gloves over a clean scrub suit, hat mask and clogs. The procedure is carried out in a dedicated operating theatre under sterile conditions.
The surgical field is draped off from surrounding areas and the incision is made using an electrocautery unit which cauterises small blood vessels as it goes
Each of the two horns of the uterus is carefully identified and very gently lifted out through the incision.

The internal muscle layers are closed.
The skin is closed using a hidden suture which dissolves without the need for removal.
Finally the drapes are removed to reveal the final result. Recovery post operatively is generally uneventful, a check-up is carried out about 10 days.
